Highland Club Culture

2000 - present

It was an age where all the underground clubs had vanished, and commercial music seemed to be all that was available or allowed to be played at the venues at the time. After conversations with various club owners in the north of Scotland, only one venue owner the promoter contacted was interested in allowing a more underground themed club night.

In March 2000 Addiction was born and the first night was launched at Club Oppos (Formally the Brig Forres of Instinct fame) and continued to run at Club Oppos until the venue shut down. Sadly, another venue sold to be levelled for flats.

Addiction then moved to Elgin to Miracle night club where they upped the ante and started booking guest DJs and acts which started a new trend and a journey through more genres of dance music. Addiction held events in Miracle until the venue closed in late 2003.

The Addiction journey went full circle, holding events in Aberdeen then returning to Forres to the Victoria Hotel in which it transformed a function room used for weddings and the like by day into a dark rave cave by night.

The events continued at the Vic until 2007 when new buildings were built next door and the noise levels became a problem.

At this point Addiction had expanded its brand to cater for all styles of harder edged music hosting arena’s for Hardcore til I die in Glasgow and Lloret de Mar in Spain, joint events with scotlands major promoters at the RATT super club in Bathgate as well as launching its events at Bliss & Envy Night club, Perth.

In Bliss and Envy Addiction was given the freedom to experiment in multiple genres and nearly every event sold out. The event ran successfully in Perth until the club ownership changed hands and the music policy became strictly commercial.

In 2010 Addiction moved base back to Aberdeen where it held residence holding events at Kode, The Forum & The Tunnels until 2015.

2015 Addiction launched Addiction white at the Ironworks in Inverness followed by an event at the Forum Aberdeen it was shortly after this the promoters were forced into a sabbatical due to work commitments and not having the time to fully commit to the events promotion.

On the eve year of Addictions 20th Birthday, Addiction have emerged back as bold as ever with a multi genre, multi room event being held in Perth with legendary guests from all corners of the underground scene in Anne Savage, Mzone, International guest Bobby V (NL) and Christina Novelli who has recently won the accolade of Trance’s No1 female artist at the International Dance Music Awards in Miami and also more to be announced..

The future is bright and Addiction have already announced The Gladiator Series to celebrate 2 decades of defiance which will see Addiction hold events in 3 locations throughout Scotland with the usual array of homegrown talent & international guests..
